My Liquid Lipstick Collection

There was a time when I vowed I’d never buy into the liquid lipstick craze. In my mind, it felt like an affront against the timelessness of a lipstick bullet. However, my purist notions were shattered all too quickly after my first foray into the liquid variety. There’s something so perfect about the way liquid lipstick stands out on your lips–and the ease of putting it on–that has left me enamored. As a result, my collection has grown, and I’d like to share it with you today!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Lolita
This is probably one of, if not the most, iconic liquid lipsticks; the one that sparked this pervasive trend. It’s universally flattering: mauve, but not too mauve. A perfect balance between warm and cool tones. I really love this color, and it’s my second-most worn lipstick (but probably the one I get the most compliments on). The formula is long-lasting, leaves a nice stain as it wears down, feels comfortable on the lips, and layers well with other products. If you haven’t tried liquid lipstick yet, this would be an excellent one to start with.

Miss Argentina
I’ve always been drawn to hot pink lipstick, but I don’t wear it often because it doesn’t seem appropriate for many occasions. However, I’d totally wear this almost-hot magenta to the office–wouldn’t think twice. It’s a gorgeous color, and there’s not much more to say. The formula, just like Lolita, is great.

Echo
Here we have a true navy, which was certainly a leap into the unknown kind of purchase for me. I really enjoy wearing it for the color, but I must admit, it’s really patchy. Putting on a matching lip liner, which I do not have, might solve this issue. Regardless, this is not something I wear often, so I don’t mind too much. The color itself is rad.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick

Mannequin
My favorite nude! I wear this more than any other lipstick I own because it goes with every eye look and has a great formula. It is more liquidy than the other brands I’ve tried, but feels very comfortable on the lips. Color-wise, this nude is just dark enough that I can wear it by itself. Any lighter, and it wouldn’t be my cup of tea. Because it’s so light, it looks amazing with a smokey eye. Like Lolita, it layers with lip liners, other lipsticks, and glosses exceptionally well. 

Unicorn Blood
The deep, rusty red of my dreams. I just love this color for fall and winter, though I’d chance wearing it any time of the year. I would say that this one is a little bit drier than Mannequin, but not to the point of being uncomfortable. I often use it with a MAC lip liner in Brick, which is the perfect combination. 

Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick

Stepping Out
The packaging for this variety is just so beautiful. The formula is a bit more drying than the other brands I own, but not so much that it’s uncomfortable to wear. This particular color is such a lovely, cool-toned nude. Because the applicator has a pointed tip, it is easy to line your lips before filling them in. I don’t love how this layers, though. I can only stand one round of reapplying before it begins to feel really thick and heavy on the lips. On the upside, this formula leaves a nice stain, minimizing the need to do so.

Chill Zone 
Can grey lips be classy? If so, this lipstick is surely the one to achieve it. The tone has a hint of purple, elevating it from Crayola grey to something more sophisticated. For being a bold color, it really can be wearable IF the rest of your makeup is more subdued. Although I think it’s important to note that it does bring out any yellow in your teeth, and may be best worn in lower lighting.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Color

Petal Pink
Laura Mercier’s variety is the hidden gem of the group. I had not heard anyone talk about this or read any reviews prior to purchasing. The packaging and pretty colors just drew me in at Sephora, and I went for it. Boy, am I glad I did! On first use, I almost wrote this off as a regret. It does not dry down completely, rendering it transfer city–not something I felt comfortable wearing without looking in the mirror every hour. BUT, if you blot it, layer on more, and then blot again, it is simply the most stunning finish. I know it does not come across as a winning formula when you have to fiddle around to make it work, but I like the way it looks enough to excuse that.

On to the color before I write a post on this brand alone! Petal pink makes me think of 60’s go-go style. Very light, bright, and makes the lips pop. This shade with a graphic winged liner is everything dreams are made of and more.

Vermillion Red
Same formula, same application technique. I’m not sure what to say other than this red is so gorgeous. I really like how it is a true red that just leans orangey-red without actually entering that color spectrum. A refreshing take on a classic color.

Tarte Tartiest Creamy Matte Lip Paint

Birthday Suit
I received this cute, mini version of Tarte’s liquid lipstick from Sephora last year for my birthday. Though a very pretty nude and comfortable on the lips, this is my least favorite formula of the bunch. It’s more of a mousse than a liquid and feels powdery on the lips. I find that it sort of just dissipates off in the way a powder would, which is very strange. If this weren’t a nude color, I think I’d be nervous to wear it for fear of it fading in the middle and leaving a harsh line around my lips. However, I have not tried it with a lip liner yet. That could very well do the trick!
