There are certain fashion “rules” you just pick up along the way. One I remember knowing since, like, forever is that every wardrobe should contain a “little black dress.” If there’s an exact definition to the type of dress this refers to, I’m not privvy to it. I’ve always taken this to mean any dress that is fully black (meaning it does not include any other colors) and on the shorter side (just above the knees or higher). These qualities make it perfect for dressing up and down for a variety of occassions.
Of course, fashion rules should only be followed insofar as they fit one’s personal taste. I happen to love the idea behind the little black dress. However, it’s a staple that has alluded me until recently. I can be very picky when it comes to fashion, in part because I’m bad at decluttering my wardrobe. So, I have to feel really positive about whatever I put into it because, chances are, I’ll have a hard time letting it go either way.
Enter the Linen Blend Mini Wrap Dress by & Other Stories. As soon as I laid my eyes on this simple, elegant little number, I just fell in love. There’s truly nothing more universally flattering than a wrap dress–and especially so when it’s in black. The linen material is breezy, on trend, and perfect for these hot, summer months. This dress is also suitable for styling up or down. Although I don’t own any white sneakers, I think they would look really cool with this piece. In the picture above, I paired it with earth-toned wedges for a dressier vibe.
One of the things I like best about this dress is the neckline. It’s neither too revealing, nor is it overly concealing. It hits the perfect sweet spot between the two. Putting this on gives me so much confidence, and it’s incredibly comfortable. The dress is only as tight as you tie it, so if you go a little overboard with the appetizers at a party, it’s easy to adjust.
I’m so happy to have this little black dress in my collection! If you’re interested in a similar dress but in a different style, & Other Stories has many other options to choose. They put out such beautiful clothing in a mix of classic and trendy styles.
