Empties | Spring 2019

It’s time for another empty products haul! I’ve been gathering all my used items over the past several months to share my thoughts on what I’d buy again and what I’ll pass on next time. Let’s get right into it!

Pacifica Dreamy Youth Day and Night Cream
I wrote about this in my last empties post, and I still feel the same. This moisturizer is thick enough to provide sufficient overnight hydration but also light enough that it doesn’t feel heavy during the day. It also plays well under makeup, which is the main thing I require out of a day moisturizer.

Pacifica Rose Kombucha Flower Powered Face Wash
I’ve used a few different Pacifica cleansers, and this one is my favorite so far. A little goes a long way, and it foams up nicely without stripping my skin of moisture. My skin always feels fresh and clean after using this face wash, and it makes an easy job of removing excess makeup.

Olivu 426 Vitamin E Lip Balm
Chapped lips are uncomfortable and the enemy of a good lipstick day. That’s why I always have a reliable lip balm on hand. This one is seriously amazing and incredibly simple. Just olive oil, beeswax, vitamin E, and mint flavoring, though you can get it unscented if that’s more your style. I really like the mint flavor. It gives the lip balm that refreshing, slightly tingly quality that I find quite pleasant. Most importantly, this stuff is seriously hydrating. I truly haven’t had to exfoliate my lips much over the past winter. It’s that good.

Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Remover
All I want out of a makeup remover is for it to do its job without stinging my eyes. In the past, I’ve used the Neutrogena eye makeup remover, which got the job done but always left an unpleasant filmy feeling in and around my eyes. Clinique’s works even better and is incredibly gentle.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+
I purchased the travel-sized version of this lotion for a work trip I attended in January. I had already tried samples of this product in the past and found it to be very hydrating. While that was the case with my travel-sized tube, it had a slightly off smell that none of the samples I tried ever had. I can’t help but wonder if it was sitting in the grab n’ go section of Ulta forever. I used the entire tube anyway, and despite the smell, it left my skin feeling soft and supple.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
Currently, I’m on the hunt for a really good dry shampoo to help me get through those in-between-washes days. My hair gets greasy pretty fast, so I’m a somewhat harsh critic of dry shampoos. Unfortunately, this one didn’t do it for me. Although it gave my hair ample volume, it didn’t absorb the oil very well. Even if it did, I still would not repurchase this because I just can’t stand its fruity-floral smell.

Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast
This spray is an outstanding product from Living Proof, and it smells delightful, too. It gives my hair so much texture and volume. I typically spray it all over my hair, tip my head over, and run my fingers through my locks to rough it up. The result is purposefully messy, undone hair that looks effortless and cool.

Wet n Wild Retractable Brow Pencil in Ash Brown
I can’t get enough of this brow pencil. It’s super affordable but has the quality of its more expensive counterparts. There’s not much more I can say about this than what I’ve already written in my dedicated review. Check it out here!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel
This gel is like glue for your brows. It will keep those hairs in place all day long. However, the spoolie is too big, making it difficult to apply the gel with any sort of precision. This product is also a little expensive for my taste. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked this brow gel for the most part. I wouldn’t write off the possibility of buying it again in the future, but for now I’m enjoying more affordable setting gels.

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Our Lil’ Secret Concealer in Angelic
Ever since I ran out of this concealer a couple months ago, I haven’t stopped thinking about it. It brightens up and smooths out the undereye area and does not settle in fine lines. Some concealers dry down so fast that they require quick work to blend out. Not this one. There’s plenty of play time, but the product still sets into a satiny-matte finish. Basically, this concealer is just super flattering, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it again.

ColourPop Creme Gel Liner in Teaspoon
It’s so frustrating. I can’t get enough of these ColourPop liners because they show up on the waterline like no other, the color selection is fun and bright, and they’re inexpensive. But, my gosh, do these break easily–this one especially. I probably only used this green liner less than 10 time (yikes). I’ve had better luck with the lighter shades, like Prance and Honeydude. The two darker shades I’ve tried–this green and Swerve–have not fared as well. They just crumble apart. While I have restocked some of my lighter shades (and will likely continue to do so), I’ll pass on trying Teaspoon again.

What products have you recently finished using? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
