BECCA Soft Light Blurring Powder

For the past few months I have been using the BECCA Soft Light Blurring Powder in the shade Golden Hue. It’s a loose setting powder that is supposed to give the face a flawless, “filtered” glow. I bought this completely on impulse; originally drawn to its shimmery golden swatch and its feminine, dimensional container.

I hate to report this, but I have to say that no matter how much I want to like this product, I am simply not a fan.

While the packaging may be eye catching, I quickly realized it is extremely bulky and doesn’t fit in the caddy where I keep the rest of my makeup, even if stored on its side.

This is fine, I suppose, because I need to keep it on a flat surface at all times. There is no way to close up the holes in the pan to measure out the product. If it is tilted even the slightest bit too much, the powder escapes everywhere when it is opened. The excess loose powder in the pan makes it difficult to control how much product clings to my brush, which results in either wasted product or way too much powder on the face. This is definitely not something I would reach for when traveling; it is doomed to my bathroom vanity for life.

The product is very thick and provides more coverage than I like for a setting powder. If I swipe this over a completed look, I feel like it muddies my makeup rather than enhancing it. It doesn’t quite work for me as a highlighter, either, since it is a loose powder and I can’t be overly precise with it.

The one way that I have enjoyed this powder is when I use it directly over foundation, without any other face makeup. In this scenario I do find that it sets, blurs, and gives off a pretty, golden hue. But for the price point, I can’t justify using it only for this.

Below are swatches of the product not at all, slightly, and completely blended.

So while there is probably someone, somewhere, with a raving review of this baby, it’s just not for me.

Does anyone have a  recommendation for a similar product I should try? Does anyone else have similar sentiments? Or perhaps you disagree completely! Leave your opinion in the comments below!

xoxo Carly
